Animal handling can be quite complex due to very specific care
procedures that must be followed to protect animal welfare and safety.
ATA handling sheets have been developed as best practices for the community. However, any handling sheet found on this site is for informational purposes only and should not be considered as superseding local, state, national or international regulations.
We remind all members of the community to always consult your governing bodies for the most complete and current applicable regulations.
The goal of these protocols is to simply elevate the knowledge of transportation personnel, thus increasing animal welfare.
Please note these protocols are meant for ground handling of various species and do not replace or change IATA’s Live Animal Regulations in any way. Requirements for air transportation of all animal species can be found in the IATA LAR as well.
